In many travelers’ opinion, Portinho da Arrabida is one of the unmatched beaches of Portugal. Tourists are allured by the protective mountain behind the beach, knowing that it prevents winds from disturbing the waters. Even if it is situated at about 30 kilometers of Lisbon (south slope of Serra da Arrabida) and not easily accessible, since you have to get in a car and then travel along narrow ways to reach it and the parking space here may be a bit crowded, the beach of Portinho da Arrabida is recommended for a serene, unruffled experience.

The beach is almost isolated, save for the weekends and summers when travelers searching for a city break or quiet days gather here. The waters are clear and may be cooler than waters that crash against other shores, but the swimming experience is unique. It is generally recommended to have some protective slippers for your feet, so as not to hurt them while stepping on the stones when you go for a swim. Diving is also popular on the beach of Portinho da Arrabida, since the waters are particularly translucent. In addition, tourists can visit the nearby Forte de Santa Maria (Santa Maria Fortress) that now hosts an Oceanographic Museum.
